The subject line says it all.

A friend of mine is thinking about pursuing a job in Costa Rica. He asked me what it's like to live there. I told him that I've never been there, but that I would ask you guys, and print your responses.

If he was a friend of yours, what would you tell him?

Thanks in advance to all.

Bobby

(BTW, he's 31 and single; he doesn't speak any Spanish; he's been to Europe, but never to Central America nor the Carribean.)

Bobby:
It is kind of nice down here.
Roads are bad, but the weather is nice ! For example, right now winter is here, but the good thing is that temperature never changes, it is never cold and you get sunny mornings almost every day, it rains in the afternoons, it REALLY rains!!.
If he is going to rent, he can get a great place for as little as $400/month. There are lots of nice places to go out at night, excellent food, great beach hotels...
It is nice!

Hey Bobby,

You still working on that "Bobby Comes Clean" post that you promised way back in February of 2002?

You know....the one where you were going to admit to all the lies of commission and omission that you had been telling on these forums when you were working at Allworld. It was the one you said would be your last post ever because you were so tired of defending yourself.

You even hinted at some apologies to people you had wrongly attacked during your unethical and intentionally misleading defense of Allworld as they were going down the tubes.

Sure hope you haven't forgotten because I'm sure there are many here still looking forward to reading it.

Sam,

Sorry to disappoint you.

The only thing I had to "come clean" about was the fact that sometimes, Rick would make a rule or a policy that I would (respectfully) disagree with. And if someone griped about that policy in the forums, I would be the one who would respond to the criticisms. It was hard work. And since I didn't really believe in my heart that the company's stance on a certain issue was the best way to handle a situation, it was even HARDER work.

I remember one time, after getting home from a 14-hour college football Saturday, I had to turn on my computer, and spend about three hours typing one of my usual long-winded responses to one of your posts. By that point, I was pretty sick of it.

I was tired of fighting over something that I personally didn't even believe in. But since I was the voice of the company, I was arguing the company's policy and point of view.

When I left All World, I wanted to tell you that I sometimes agreed with you. Not usually; just occasionally. But I couldn't state that publicly.

I'm sorry that you were expecting something more earth-shattering. But that's all there was to it. In fact, I didn't even bother with it, until you suggested that it had something to do with me, quote:

"admit to all the lies of commission and omission that you had been telling on these forums when you were working at Allworld"

Boy, did you have the wrong idea. Again.

If you're planning on digging up the old posts and rekindling this debate, don't bother. I won't see it. I haven't been to the Rx in over a year. I came in because I thought maybe the posters here could help my friend who is considering a move to Costa Rica. The response has been disappointing. I have no intention of checking this board again.

Bobby

(That's not a knock on the Rx. It's just not my cup of tea.)

A decent attempt at "spin" here Bobby, but it didn't work 15 months ago, and it won't work now. You seem to have a serious problem with honesty and truth.

Here are some facts in case they slipped your grasp and/or memory. The "criticisms", as you call them, were mostly questions about player un-friendly changes in Allworld's policies at that time. Instead of answering them in a straightforward and truthful manner (or simply declining comment), you chose to repeatedly LIE and attack the posters asking the questions. You were fairly popular at the time so you erroneously thought you could rally support for your misguided cause (even enlisting the aid of a couple of unscrupulous forum owners at another site), but enough people saw through your constant stream of b.s. and called you on it.

You should have been sick of it. Making ad-hominem attacks on posters asking valid questions in an effort to discredit them, and then intentionally misleading and lying to the forums about the true state of affairs at Allworld should have made you sick.

As I recall Rick and Kenny were also posting for Allworld at the time. I would find it hard to believe that you were singled out and forced to answer Allworld questions on the forums by lying and attacking posters asking legitimate questions.

Did you ever stop and consider the feelings of the players you were repeatedly lying to on these forums, and all the money those players would have lost if Allworld went down with their money?

I guess that didn't matter to you, as long as you could hang on to your job.

quote:
When I left All World, I wanted to tell you that I sometimes agreed with you. Not usually; just occasionally. But I couldn't state that publicly.

You had plenty of opportunities to do that if you had wanted to, but you did not. It's been 15 months. You could have sent an e-mail if you wanted to say something privately, but you instead chose to slither off in the hope that it would all be forgotten. Save your b.s. for the handful of people who still might believe you.

quote:
I'm sorry that you were expecting something more earth-shattering. But that's all there was to it. In fact, I didn't even bother with it, until you suggested that it had something to do with me, quote:

No, I definitely wasn't expecting anything remotely near earth-shattering. Not after watching you twist and bend and contort the truth, and just outright lie, so many times before. I guess I was just hoping that you would show some class and a glimmer of honesty and admit to what you had been doing. Guess even that small hope was expecting too much.

quote:
Boy, did you have the wrong idea. Again.

Nope....and that's really a shame. The fact is I've always had the right idea about you. I'm glad I could expose you for the lying, misleading spin artist you turned out to be.

quote:
If you're planning on digging up the old posts and rekindling this debate, don't bother.

There is no "debate". This has always been a matter of facts and lies. Here's a Cliff Notes version of events for those who didn't follow it while it was happening, or don't want to look up old posts.

I asked Bobby questions about changes at Allworld. In a deliberate attempt to conceal the true story of what was happening there (they were out of money and going down), Bobby chose to be evasive and instead attacked me personally. When that didn't work and he was pressed for answers, Bobby chose to lie....and continued to lie, all the while feigning shock and pain that people wouldn't just accept his stories as truth. After allowing him more than enough rope to hang himself, I explained why I knew Bobby had been lying to everyone, and publicly called him a liar. Bobby expressed more shock and disbelief that anyone could possibly accuse him of such outrageous behavior, but after thinking it over he promised to finally "come clean".

He never did. Looks like he never will.

quote:
I have no intention of checking this board again.

Another lie in a calculated attempt to avoid owning up for your many misdeeds, and apologizing to all the people you were lying to in your misguided effort to keep Allworld afloat. Luckily for the players, Pariaction stepped in to avoid a complete disaster....no thanks to you and your exhaustive efforts to intentionally mislead everyone.

It's a real shame to see an obviously bright guy use his intelligence in such slimy attempts to hide and distort the truth. I think the readers here (and at other forums) deserved better than that.

I was hoping you might have learned some valuable lessons from your stint as the Allworld Information Minister, or at least showed some genuine remorse for your behavior, but judging by your response in this thread, that doesn't seem to be the case.

That's too bad.

Thanks Shrink. Just trying to set the record straight.

Since it doesn't appear that Bobby has any intention of "coming clean" as he had promised, I think I'll go back and get a few of his direct quotes so there will be no doubt about what he was attempting to pull on everyone, and to better show the kind of guy we were dealing with here.

I would have much preferred an open and honest statement coming from him, but judging by his response here, it doesn't look like he has that in him.

Back to your original question, Bobby. Cr is the most beautiful country I have visited. Generally, the people are very friendly but not honest. There is no justice here and if they do arrest someone he is guilty until proven innocent.

However, I would recommend to come visit just for the experience.

That's right! I believe is the only way. We all have our own things to say about Costa Rica, but you have to see it for yourself, get a nice drive in San Jose at 5pm, try the Mercado's food, go out at night, do the line up on a bank, basically get the picture, the juice...
Then you'll have enough experiences to make a wise choice...

Tell him to bring a BIG umbrella, a gun to fight off the chapalino's and a gas mask in case he goes downtown to the Del Ho. In 1 word it's easy "toilet".
